Market Cap Segment Indexes

  • Russell/Nomura Total Market Index contains the top 98% of all stocks listed on Japan's stock exchanges and registered on Japan's OTC market in terms of market capitalization. This portfolio of securities currently comprises approximately 2,000 of the largest Japan securities as determined by total market capitalization and measures the performance of the broad market. Thus, over historical periods, the number of stocks included varies. In 1979, approximately 1100 stocks made up 98% of total market cap. All other Russell/Nomura indexes are subsets of this universe of stocks.
  • Russell/Nomura Large Cap Index contains the top 85% of the Russell/Nomura Total Market Index in terms of market capitalisation.
  • Russell/Nomura Small Cap Index contains the bottom 15% of the Russell/Nomura Total Market Index in terms of market capitalisation.
  • Russell/Nomura Top Cap Index contains the top 50% of the Russell/Nomura Total Market Index in terms of market capitalisation.
  • Russell/Nomura Mid Cap Index contains the middle 35% of the Russell/Nomura Total Market Index in terms of market capitalisation.
  • Russell/Nomura Mid-Small Cap Index contains the bottom 50% of the Russell/Nomura Total Market Index in terms of market capitalisation.

Equity Style Indexes

  • Russell/Nomura Total Market Growth Index contains those Russell/Nomura Total Market Index securities with greater-than-average growth characteristics. The stocks are also members of the Russell/Nomura Large Growth and Russell/Nomura Small Growth indexes.
  • Russell/Nomura Total Market Value Index contains those Russell/Nomura Total Market Index securities with less-than-average growth characteristics. The stocks are also members of the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Value and Russell/Nomura Small Cap Value indexes.
  • Russell/Nomura Large Cap Growth Index contains those Russell/Nomura Large securities with greater-than-average growth characteristics. Companies in this index tend to exhibit higher price-to-book ratios than the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Value index.
  • Russell/Nomura Large Cap Value Index contains those Russell/Nomura Large securities with less-than-average growth characteristics. Securities in this index generally have lower price-to-book ratios than the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Growth index.
  • Russell/Nomura Small Cap Growth Index contains those Russell/Nomura Small Cap securities with greater-than-average growth characteristics. Securities in this index generally have higher price-to-book ratios than those in the Russell/Nomura Small Cap Value index.
  • Russell/Nomura Small Cap Value Index contains those Russell/Nomura Small Cap securities with less-than-average growth characteristics. Securities in this index generally have lower price-to-book ratios than those in the Russell/Nomura Small Cap Growth index.
  • Russell/Nomura Top Cap Growth Index contains those Russell/Nomura Top Cap Index with a greater-than-average growth orientation. The stocks are also members of the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Growth index.
  • Russell/Nomura Top Cap Value Index contains those Russell/Nomura Top Cap Index with a less-than-average growth orientation. The stocks are also members of the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Value index.
  • Russell/Nomura Mid Cap Growth Index contains those Russell/Nomura Mid Cap Index with a greater-than-average growth orientation. The stocks are also members of the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Growth index.
  • Russell/Nomura Mid Cap Value Index contains those Russell/Nomura Mid Cap Index with a less-than-average growth orientation. The stocks are also members of the Russell/Nomura Large Cap Value index.
